MOTHER | MAMA
Director: Vlado Škafar
Saturday, 26/11/2016 at 19:00
Feature film. SLO/ITA 2016
Slovenian, English, Italian with English subtitles
Tickets are available HERE.

A Slovenian mother brings her drug-addicted daughter across the border into a remote Italian village. She is desperate. The best chance she has to save her child is, so she believes, to simply lock her up. Inspired by Proust among others, this lyrical and, nevertheless, realistic film is not only about the relationship of two people but like a “poem about two human souls” (according to the director Vlado Škafar). Both women experience a kind of spiritual journey, where their deep emotions are made even more tangible by the power of nature, silence and solitude. Arthouse at its finest!

SILENT SONATA | CIRCUS FANTASTICUS
Director: Janez Burger
Sunday, 27/11/2016 at 19:00
Feature film. SLO/IRL/FIN/SWE 2010
No dialogues
Tickets are available HERE.

A farmer and his children are hiding in the ruins of a destroyed house. There is war raging around, and his wife was just killed by a grenade. He is expecting a new attack soon when a group of circus performers and their dying circus director show up looking for shelter. Is it possible for something beautiful to happen in the midst of tragedy and death? Can life just simply go on? Janez Burger’s surreal seeming SILENT SONATA does perfectly well without dialogue. The poetic film tells a fascinating anti-war story by using the circus as a metaphor for a world where hope and fantasy have space to prosper despite horrendous events.

CASE: OSTERBERG| PSI BREZČASJA
Director: Matej Nahtigal
Monday, 28/11/2016 at 19:00
Feature film. SLO 2015
Slovenian with English subtitles
Tickets are available HERE.

Rok returns to his hometown after four years in order to investigate his younger brother’s murder. He soon finds that the deceased had been involved in illegal transactions. And eventually, Rok himself has to confront his past. He encounters old and new friends and foes. Beside himself nobody really seems to be interested in solving the obscure case Osterberg, which goes further up the ranks of society than it might seem at first glance. Matej Nahtigal’s directorial debut, a neo-noir thriller about truths and lies, power, greed and corruption was received highly positive by both critics and audiences.
