Synopsis

Alis, a 36-year-old bachelor, is one thing in particular: a dreamer. His father has thus finally kicked him out of the house, which is why he must now live in his car. After a few professional failures and desperate attempts by his mother to find some kind of work for him, Alis finally gets a job as a sales rep for vacuum cleaners. Over time, his demo model “Karnaval” turns into a faithful imaginary friend. One day, he seriously falls in love with Demet, a rebellious and sensitive wedding cake baker, who is an equally odd bird, still lives with her father and dreams of moving to Istanbul. This enjoyable love story between two mavericks who could not be more similar and more different at the same time is full of ironic moments and tells the story of two ordinary people who create a world of their own outside the limits of social conventions. But this world is shaken when “Karnaval” suddenly disappears. In his entertaining, bittersweet debut feature, Can Kilcioğlu portraits the life of those “invisible” young people in Turkey's anonymous urban jungles who want to break free from family bondage to lead a self-determined life.
