LET'S INTEGRATE!

LET'S INTEGRATE! is a film series curated by the LET’S CEE Film Festival within the scope of the 6th Vienna Integration Week that will be presented at Village Cinema Wien Mitte (Landstraßer Hauptstraße 2A, 1030 Wien) from 20 to 22 May 2016 with support from Cineplexx International, GLS Austria, the Azerbaijani Culture Centre, the Slovenian Culture and Information Centre in Austria SKICA, the Polish Institute Vienna, the Film Magazin RAY, the DOT. Magazine, the Slovenian Film Centre, the Azerbaijanfilm Film Studio and the Austrian Trade Association ÖGV.

Offering six outstanding and award-winning films from Central and Eastern Europe, the festival invites people from Vienna with or without migrant background in the name of integration to an entertaining joint cinema experience for a special reduced price of 7,50 Euro per ticket.

The Queen of Silence

Ten-year-old deaf-dumb Denisa lives with her family and other Romani people in Poland. They face extreme poverty, constant presence of police forces, segregation isolation. Talented director Agnieszka Zwiefka created out of The Queen of Silence a very moving and poetic, as well as entertaining and thought-provoking story. Winner of the Documentary Film Competition of the LET'S CEE Film Festival 2015.

You Carry Me

Three different, very complex but amusingly narrated, father-daughter relations. Despite the exceptional complexity, the story is structured so well that 155 minutes seem to fly by in a flash. Praised as a milestone in the Croatian history of films because of its charming combination of profound screenplay, inventive direction and marvellous camera work. Winner of the Feature Film Competition of the LET'S CEE Film Festival 2015.

The vibrant second film of Goran Vojnovic is based on his novel with the same title and tells the story of the so called "Čefurji". That's the slang term used for migrants from former Yugoslavia, such as Marco and his friends. Their strong-willed behavior coupled with an unapologetic teenage vernacular bring an added element of humor.

Ali is in the middle of a real life crisis. By means of scary outbursts, he can’t restrain himself from taking out his frustration on either his wife or his son. Down the River is a lifelike told drama about a dysfunctional family. Director Asif Rustamov accomplishes to embed the profound story with imposing visual imagery and stirring soundtrack into a magnificent framework.

Refugees took on the journey by foot from Syria via Turkey, Greece and Macedonia to Serbia in the hope for better life. Between the extremes of the “fortress Europe” and a Europe of human rights, Žilnik manages to give a human face to the high number of refugees, often perceived as rather abstract in the media.

6th Vienna Integration Week & LET'S CEE Film Festival

The Vienna Integration Week is a series of events on behalf of the diversity in Vienna organised by BUM Media Wien and numerous cooperating partners. The platform especially promotes intercultural exchange and the societal participation of migrants. The openness and inclusion of Vienna’s migrants, who form an essential part of the cultural and economic urban life, are an important condition for a successful integration and a society’s future sustainability.

As a cooperating partner of the 6th Vienna Integration Week the LET’S CEE Film Festival, which since its founding in 2012 successfully, positively and visibly contributes to the intercultural dialogue on a domestic and international level, is going to present a BEST OF of last year’s edition of the LET’S CEE Film Festival according to the motto: LET'S INTEGRATE!
